Sketch Noting with First Grade

For this month's Book of the Month the Literacy Coach and I taught teachers how to use Sketch Noting with their students as a means of deepening the thinking students do as they listen to information filled text.  You can learn more about what Sketch Noting is here. This morning I got to teach two classes of our first graders how to use this skill as we learned about elections.  What was so cool about this experience was that one of the classes had already tried it and were able to mentor the other class who was new to the idea!

Saw sketch noting in all of the ELA classrooms I work in this week and then at the MARC, 4th and 5th graders during independent reading used sketch noting on their own. It has been such an interesting way to engage students!

I really enjoyed the sketch noting during the BOM! What a powerful strategy for all subject areas.

I thought this was a hugely powerful BOM meeting, and sketch-noting is just plain cool. Hey Mikey, even the math guy liked it!
