You Can Quote Me On That!

I'm always searching for just the right quote that punctuates the point I am trying to make in meetings, on agendas and in my writing. There are several that have always stuck with me and offer important descriptions and reminders about who and what I want to be. My all time favorite is:

No one saves us but ourselves,

no one can and no one may.

We ourselves must walk the path,

Teachers merely show the way.

For me it is the perfect anthem for personal accountability and for the impact our "teachers" of life have on providing points of direction. It's up to each of us to put the work into bettering ourselves but of paramount importance for those who lead to also be a guide. What's your favorite quote and why?

It's not really a quote, but it has been made into a mantra of many:

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Hard to beat Robert Frost's metaphor for living a life that is not based on following the path of least resistance. I will not try to keep up with the Joneses unless they are DOING something remarkable. I do not need their Beemer or their flat screen :-}

I am here for a purpose and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. Henceforth will I apply ALL my efforts to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy.

I like this quote because I laugh at some of the ideas I've had in the past and how, back then, I really thought I was right. In time, it is amazing how much you can change and grow through experience....if you allow yourself to notice and make the effort to make yourself better.

I don't really know why I have just always loved this quote...embrace life and don't waste your days doing something you don't love.

I love this quote because it speaks to me about the teacher I have become since I came to Chets. I love learning new and exciting things everyday. And working at Chets enables me to do that. I learn from my wonderful partner, from my team, from my principal and from my students and parents.

I love this quote because it makes me think of my baby girl Haley. She is seventeen now and this is one of her favorite quotes.
